Nursery Consumables Fee

At Burscough Village Primary School Nursery, we are committed to providing children with a rich variety of engaging, practical and sensory learning experiences.

Our Consumables Fee helps us provide these high-quality experiences, maintain excellent hygiene standards and ensure that frequently used materials are readily available. It also allows us to offer a broad range of activities without requesting separate contributions from families throughout the year.

What Does the Fee Contribute Towards?

Personal Care and Hygiene

  • Baby wipes used throughout the day for personal care and hygiene.
  • Nappy sacks and bags for the safe and hygienic disposal of nappies.
  • Personal protective equipment, including gloves and aprons, used during nappy changing and personal care routines.

Creative and Sensory Learning

  • Ingredients for making fresh playdough each week. Preparing playdough regularly helps us maintain high hygiene standards while providing children with a safe and enjoyable sensory experience.
  • Scents, food colouring and other materials used to enhance sensory play.
  • Consumable materials used in messy play activities, such as pasta, flour, rice and shaving foam.
  • Resources for sensory and exploratory play that require regular replenishment.

Cooking and Food Exploration

  • Ingredients for cooking and baking activities linked to children’s learning, topics and interests.
  • Food-tasting experiences that encourage children to explore new tastes, textures and cultures connected to their learning.

Enriching Learning Experiences

  • Additional materials used to provide stimulating experiences that support children’s learning and development across all areas of the Early Years curriculum.

The Consumables Fee helps us to:

  • Maintain a clean, safe and hygienic environment for every child.
  • Provide engaging activities without requesting separate contributions for individual experiences throughout the year.

Department for Education Guidance

Government funding for early education and childcare entitlements does not necessarily cover additional goods and services, such as meals, nappies, other consumables or additional activities.

Providers may ask parents and carers to contribute towards these items, but the charge must not be mandatory or a condition of accessing a funded place.

A Note About the Consumables Fee

We want every child to enjoy the full range of experiences and opportunities available within our nursery.

The Consumables Fee is entirely voluntary. If you would prefer not to contribute, please speak to a member of the Nursery or School Office team. We will be happy to arrange for the charge to be removed from your invoice.

Choosing not to pay the Consumables Fee will not affect your child’s funded nursery place.
