We are delighted to share that Phase 1 of our Community Unity Through Sports Project is now complete, thanks to the generous support of grants, donations, and local businesses.

This exciting space has been in development for over a year and was created to give our children a multi-use, all-weather area where they can be active, play, and learn throughout the day.

The new space is already being enjoyed across the school day and reflects our strong commitment to helping children stay active. This term, pupils are also taking part in Active Soles to encourage even more movement. The area is being used for a wide range of sports, class team-building activities, and sensory circuits for smaller groups of children.

Mrs Yates, Headteacher, said, “It is wonderful to see the children enjoying this new space. It has been a long time in the planning, and we are delighted to see Phase 1 complete.” As a Youth Sport Trust ambassador, Mrs Yates is passionate about creating opportunities that help every child enjoy the benefits of being active.

The development of the new zone has also allowed us to work alongside FUNDA, who run a successful holiday camp for children in the local community. This new sports area provides a fantastic foundation for that provision to grow even further. We have also planned a new mother-and-toddler fitness session for this term, creating a safe and welcoming space for mums and their toddlers to enjoy physical activity together.

As one of the pilot schools for the DfE free breakfast club scheme, we are also pleased that this area can be used in the mornings, giving children the chance to be active before the school day begins and supporting both focus and regulation in the classroom.

We are incredibly grateful to Burscough Town Council, the Sport England Movement Fund, Tesco Community Project, our wonderful PTFA, personal donations from parents and families, Dave McDivitt and Sons, and Hays Recruitment. Finally, a big shout to all the staffing team at BVPS, for all their support with the project, the amazing staff panto which raised over £1400. Everyone's generosity and support have helped make this project possible.

We are already looking ahead to Phase 2, with fundraising plans underway, including our annual colour run next month. We are excited to begin exploring designs for a new climbing area and sensory gym equipment for our younger children, as we continue to develop spaces that support play, movement, and wellbeing across our school community.
